Skin Pen

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling uses mechanical injury to stimulate collagen product to provide skin rejuvenation and plumping. It creates very tiny punctures in the skin that natural triggers collagen production.

What is SkinPen?

SkinPen: The Next Advancement in Micro-Therapy
SkinPen is a medical grade, state-of-the-art microneedling device designed to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scars on the face and body. SkinPen allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair process by creating thousands of precise micro-injuries in the dermis, automatically triggering new collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation.
The variable depth (.25mm to 2.5mm) of SkinPen and the cordless design provide significant versatility to create change in many areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. The actual procedure typically takes 30 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated and the severity of damage on the skin and results in little to no downtime for the patient.

What conditions can it treat?

Microneedling can help with scarring, wrinkles –fine or deep, and even help with hyperpigmentation. Microneedling can be mixed with a variety of other types of products or techniques including topical skin care, peels, and skin cell therapy.
At the Center for Wellness, we are taking skin care one step further than our colleague by offering skin cell therapy infusions.

What are the benefits?

SkinPen® procedures are beneficial to assist in reducing the signs of
aging, improving the appearance of acne scars, as well as rejuvenate
aging skin.

Who is a candidate?

One of the most exciting things about SkinPen® is that it can be used on all types of skin, on all skin colors. Talk to your SkinPen® provider to discuss specific needs.

What areas of the body can it be used for?

SkinPen®’s variable needle depth allows for versatility and therefore it can be used on many parts of the body, including the face, neck, and décolleté.

How long does the procedure take and will it hurt?

The procedure typically takes 30 minutes. Most SkinPen users apply a topical anesthetic to the skin prior to the procedure. This allows for a relatively pain-free experience.

How often are the treatments?

Treatments are based on body section but generally for the face and neck, every 4-6 weeks. If we are using stem cells, then there is a priming period to ensure your body is nutritionally supportive when we need to harvest the cells. This is usually 4-5 weeks prior to the initial Microneedling treatment. Depending on the type of skin issue, a patient typically needs 3-6 treatments; more may be required, depending on severity of wrinkles, scarring, etc. Each person is different and we can not guarantee perfection, but will do our best to help you achieve the look you desire.

What is the downtime and what side effects should I expect?

The total healing time depends on each individual patient. Most patients have some slight swelling and redness/pinkness (like a mild sunburn) for 2-4 days. Some patients may heal completely in 24 hours. *Individual results will vary.

When will I see results?

Patients may notice healthier looking skin immediately. However, the natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress over the course of several weeks. Damage that has occurred over an extensive period of time won’t disappear immediately. You may not see the final result for up to 3-6 months following your final session. *Individual results will vary.

Can I wear make-up immediately following a procedure?

Patients typically can resume their normal makeup regimen the next day following their SkinPen® procedure depending on the area and type of procedure performed.
